The Virginian Tournament Results
May 29-31, 2010

U10B Eagles White — Champions of Silver Division

For the second year in a row, the U10 Boys Eagles White took home the Silver Division championship trophy at the Virginian Tournament. Eagles White went through the tournament unbeaten, with wins over the Wyckoff Torpedoes, NVSC Jr. Royals, BAC Hawks, and concluding with an exciting, come from behind 3-2 overtime win against Gunston Premier Red. The team is coached by Mo Tayari, Chris Holden and Alexis Koppius.

U10B Eagles Red — Champions of Gold Division

After victories in the ASIST and SASA tournaments in March, U10 Boys Eagles Red won their third straight Premier Division tournament. The Eagles posted a 2-1-0 record in the preliminary games with only a 2-1 loss to CYA Arsenal marring their record. They subsequently defeated the top seed from the other bracket, ASA Lightning, 4-2, to advance to the Monday morning final. The switch from a bumpy, sloped grass field to artificial turf suited Eagles Red’s ball control skills perfectly and they rolled to a 5-0 victory in the final in a rematch against CYA Arsenal. For the 2009-2010 year. The Eagles Red is coached by Mo Tayari, Chris Holden and Alexis Koppius.

U10B Eagles Black — Finalists in Bronze Division

After winning their Division’s championship at the PWSI tournament, the U10 Boys Eagles Black were Finalists in the Bronze Division at the Virginian Tournament. Eagles Black went 3-0-0 in the preliminary matches. In the semifinal match, Eagles Black battled their brothers from the Eagles Blue team into overtime and came away with a hard-fought 2-1 victory. In the Finals, against a very good St. Mary’s team, the two teams traded goals through most of the game until the very end, with St. Mary’s pulling out a 4-2 victory. The team is coached by Grant Smith.

U13G Dynamo — Champions in Bronze Division

For the first time in Dynamo competitive history, Dynamo walked away with the championship trophy in this year’s Virginian. Playing in the U13G Bronze division, the Dynamo proved that hard work and determination pays off in great rewards. In the first game, Dynamo prevailed 3-2 against an SYC club that has proved to be both a familiar and competitive foe. Dynamo had a 1-1-1 record against the Thunder in the fall, and lost in the finals at the October Battlefield Classic to this same squad. The second game was another tight one-goal victory, where Dynamo defeated ODSL rival FPYC by a score of 1-0. Over the course of the next two games, Dynamo gave an indication of their capabilities on both sides of the pitch. A 4-0 victory over Mclean highlighted Dynamo’s scoring proficiency and a 0-0 tie with Sterling was a hard-fought defensive battle. All of which set the stage for an exciting championship game against New York based Clarkstown.

After fighting to a 1-1 tie at half time, both teams played their hearts out though the second half and two overtime periods without a change in score, forcing the championship to be decided by PKs. At the end of a long, grueling, hot day—Dynamo prevailed by knocking home four of five PK’s, while the stalwart Dynamo goalkeeper rejected two powerful attempts by the Clarkstown girls. With the PK score ending 4-3 in Dynamo’s favor, the championship game was registered in the books as a 2-1 Dynamo championship game victory. Over the three-day, five-game tournament—the Dynamo were undefeated, with three shutouts, nine goals for and four goals against.

Congratulations to all the Dynamo on their first tournament victory ever. The 2009-2010 Dynamo are: Addison, Addie, Amelia, Anna, Donia, Elie, Emily, Eva, Jennifer, Kate, Kaleigh (The General), Katie, Libby, Lilly, Nicole, Olivia, and Reed. The Dynamo are ably coached by Papa Dia and Emily Trout.

U14G Blast — Champions of Bronze-West Division

The U14 Girls Blast, coached by Wes Windsor and Ingrid Zegada-Frias, was victorious in the Bronze Division - West, winning all five of their games this past weekend at the Virginian. Coming from behind in two games to win a berth in the finals, Blast played tight defense while working the wings and utilizing superior foot skills to play to a 1-1 tie in the final against a very physical New Jersey team. After going scoreless in two 10 minute overtimes, the players put the match away in penalty kicks. Christine Vincent, Sam Tigner, Anne Terpstra , Jordan Rivera, Madeline Preiss, Elizabeth Morley, Meghan McDonald, Zoey Lande, Lauren Karpinski, Alex Ellison, Joanna Easby, Julia Campbell, Emily Bragaw-Butler, Nina Beatrice, and Sarah Bauman worked seamlessly as a team in stringing together their winning weekend. Of his players, Windsor noted "They displayed a tremendous individual and team spirit this whole weekend. They never backed down and battled for each other from the first whistle to the last."
Potomac Memorial Tournament Results
May 29-31, 2010

U11B Attack White — Champions of the Chesapeake Division

The Arlington Attack White played like champions this weekend at the Potomac Memorial Day Tournament. Attack White won the Chesapeake division with a 4-1-0 record, outscoring their opponents 15-4. Attack White overcame a first game 3-0 loss to the Baltimore Bays finish the tournament with four consecutive wins. This was the third tournament Attack White has won this year. Congratulations to the boys for their hard work.

U12 Impact Red — Finalists of the Potomac Division

Arlington Impact Red 97 boys were Finalists in the top U12 division—11v11 bracket—of the 2010 Potomac Memorial Tournament held over Memorial Day weekend. As they prepare for the move from 8v8 soccer to 11v11 soccer in the fall, the Impact Red boys used the Potomac Memorial to gain valuable experience playing on a full-size pitch. They competed against teams from Connecticut, New York and other states where they have already switched to 11v11 full-time at the U12 level. After a tough opening 2-1 loss to SOCA Express, Impact Red came back to beat current Connecticut U12 State Cup Finalist, Beachside FC, 4-2, after being down 2-0. Next was a very physical game against the Smithtown (NY) Thunder, which they won 1-0 to reach the semifinals. Playing their best soccer of the tournament, Impact Red scored a victory over the host Potomac Diplomats, 3-1, to set up a rematch against SOCA Express in the Final. In a tough, well-played match, against two very stingy defenses, SOCA Express scored against the run of play with about six minutes left to win 1-0, and take the tournament title, thereby avenging a loss to 2010 ASIST U12 Champions Impact Red in this year’s ASIST tournament. Impact Red look to finish strong over the remainder of their NCSL Division 1 season, where they are battling for the championship. Impact Red 97 boys are coached by Grant Smith, Frank DeMarco, and Mo Tayari.

ASIST Summary: Three Champions, Plus One Finalist
March 2010

The boys’ weekend of the the Arlington Spring Invitational, a premier-rated tournament for competitive travel teams, was held on March 6-7, 2010 by the Arlington Soccer Association. Three Arlington Soccer Association travel teams were crowned champions, and another was a Finalist.

U12B Impact Red
were champions of the Premier Division after winning 4 hard-fought games against some excellent visiting teams that included Arsenal FC Navy (4-0), PWSI Courage 97 Red (3-0), SOCA Express (2-0) and SAC United Premier (3-1). Speed and excellent footwork marked competitive games and talented play of the 12 Impact players. Goalie Daniel Eigler-Harding delivered 3 consecutive shutouts, stopping numerous shots on goal by opposing players. The Impact Red Team put together solid passing combinations and a very fast speed of play to score some early goals and march its way to the championship game against a well-coached SAC United Premier team. Team members include Jack, Will, Roger, Jake, Daniel D, Daniel H, Noah K, Mason, Lucas, Enrique, Christophe, and Noah P. The team is coached by ATSC Director of Coaching Grant Smith, and assisted by coaches Frank DeMarco and Mo Tayari.

U12B Impact White
started by defeating Arsenal FC Gold, from Pennsylvania, by a score of 8-1, and then beat New York’s Empire USA Select Red by 2-0. In the flight championship game, Impact tied VBSC Leesburg Lions, 2-2, but advanced to the division championship on a tiebreaker.

The division championship, against VSA Heat 97 Blue, was a spirited, back-and-forth match that went down to the wire. Impact lost the 5-4 decision after the Heat broke a tie with a goal late in the second half.

The Impact White team consists of Zach Bogorad, Cullen Boone, Travis Clark-Winston, Noah Goodkind, Sam Holmes, Brandon Hughes, Geronimo Kurzbach-Pevere, Theo Lebryk, Ryan Lesmez, Elliot Mercado, Keyvan Montero Sarmiento, Cameron Rodrigues, Tim Walten and Aidan Wang. The team is coached by Grant Smith, Frank DeMarco and Mo Tayari

U10B Eagles Red
won the Premier Division. In the first game on Saturday, against VSA Heat Blue, Eagles Red scored two goals in the first ten minutes, and never looked back on their way to a 6-0 victory. The next game proved to be more difficult against a strong LMVSC team, and the Eagles lost a hard-fought game 2-1.

The night of rest seemed to rejuvenate the boys because on Sunday they took care of business in the morning game, scoring four goals in the first six minutes of a 6-1 victory over DC Stoddert Blue. The two wins were enough to qualify them for the afternoon championship against East Brunswick (NJ) FC United.

In the championship, a goal twelve minutes into the game gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead at halftime. Two goals within a minute at the 40-minute mark provided a 3-0 lead. The defense for the Eagles was solid and they were difficult for East Brunswick to open up. But East Brunswick made things interesting with a goal at the 50-minute mark and created several more chances. Eagles Red held on, and added a goal in the last minute, making the final 4-1.

The tournament was a wonderful experience for the Eagles Red and it was a great way to complete their first year representing their club in their own tournament. Go Eagles Red!

U10B Eagles White
completed an undefeated run through the Classic Division with a 2-1 victory over a tough Empire United team. The Eagles opened the tournament with a 3-1 victory over Reston United Blue, and followed up with a convincing 5-3 win over the DC Stoddert Red Metros. The third game ended with a hard fought 2-1 win over the Braddock Road Elite Blue.

The Arlington Spring Invitational win continues a string of tournament success for Eagles White that includes bracket championships in last year’s Virginian and Richmond Cup tourneys. Congratulations Eagles White! Both Eagles Red and Eagles White are coached by Mo Tayari, Chris Holden, and Alexis Koppius.
