TOPSoccer Program
Volunteer Opportunity for ATSC Teams and Players
TOPSoccer is a special program for children with disabilities. TOPSoccer stands for The Outreach Program for Soccer. The ASA TOPSoccer Club is part of the Arlington Soccer Association.
TOPSoccer is a community based training and team placement program for young athletes with disabilities. The program is designed to bring the opportunity of learning and playing soccer to any boy or girl who has a mental or physical disability.
"Thank you for Saturday afternoon. [My son] said that it was the best day of his life! He loves soccer. The assistants are wonderful!!" -- parent of ASA TOPSoccer player
The emphasis of TOPSoccer is on development, training, and meaningful participation rather than on competition. Our goal is to enable young athletes with disabilities to become valued and successful members of the Arlington and Falls Church youth soccer family.
“Why do we need TOPSoccer? So that every kid can know the rewards of playing on a team, of trying to score – of being in the game! It brings a sense of accomplishment and sheer joy to kids who otherwise would have to sit on the sidelines. Parents can’t praise it enough, the siblings enjoy helping and cheering, the kids’ laughter and enthusiasm are infectious – In this program, everyone comes away a winner.” -- Julie Foudy, US Women’s National Team, Olympic Gold and Silver Medallist, World Cup Soccer Champion
Formed in July 2002, TOPSoccer is the newest soccer club to join the Arlington Soccer Association.
Soccer buddies work with the TOPSoccer players during each session, working one on one with players. Anyone 12 years old or older can be a soccer buddy. ATSC teams are invited to sign up as a team to act as buddies for one session. We suggest that coaches with boys and girls ages U12 and older considering scheduling one Saturday to be a Buddy Team. Contact the Club Manager to volunteer.
This is a great volunteer opportunity for teenagers and adults who love soccer and want to share their passion for the sport with children with special needs. Ideally, each TOPSoccer athlete will have a buddy available to work with one-on-one each season.
When: April 17, 24, May 1, 15, 22, 29, and June 5.
Soccer buddies should be there at 3:40 for training and orientation.
