Training Priorities for U6-U19 Soccer Players
Section Under Teams on Home Page
This section is set up to identify VYSA’s training priorities for coaches, as well as players and parents.  Parents, especially of U12 and younger players, please familiarize yourselves with this material.

ATSC agrees that it is extremely important that we develop players by design and not by error.  By following these Training Priorities we are ensuring that ATSC players learn aspects of the game when they are physically, emotionally and psychologically ready to do so.

It is recommended that players between the ages of 9-14 are trained a great deal in the technical fundamentals and that the majority of each practice (65%-75%) be aimed at improving a players 1st touch and improving the quality of striking the soccer ball.

Click on the links to the left to see what priorities should be taught at specific ages in a child’s soccer development.

Goalkeeping Training Priorities for U12 and older keepers are included so our keepers can progress in a systematic manner as well.

If you have any questions or suggestions about these training priorities, please talk with your coach, or contact the ATSC Executive Director or the ATSC Director of Coaching.
The Importance of Developing U8, U9 and U10 Players
From America Soccer's Youth Soccer Letter

From an article that appeared on VYSA's web site, from Soccer America's Youth Letter, by Dan Woog

"After all those years, I realized the long-term success of our club depends more on what we do with U-8s and U-10s than any other age," Al McWhirter said. "At most clubs, the directors of those age groups are the least experienced people. They have the most to learn, but as soon as they learn it they move with their kids into older ages.
