In the aftermath of Tropical Storm Hanna and a Saturday rainout, cloudless blue skies matching their jerseys met the U9 Eagles Blue as they faced ABGC on Sunday morning, September 7, at Holmes Middle School in Alexandria.

The Eagles Blue season started with a bang just two minutes into the game, as David corralled a mishandled back pass to the ABGC goalie and put it into the net.

At 19 minutes, after a long stretch of back and forth, Vittorio deflected the ball to Marco who put it in.

Just five minute later, Mateo made a nice run from the left side to the middle at the top of the box where he laid if off to David, who put it in with the left foot.

The 4th goal came in the 29th minute off a cross to Mateo by Marty through Nicholas.

The first thirty minutes ended 4-0, as goalkeeper Ethan notched a clean sheet.

11 minutes into the second half, Eagles Blue extended their lead to 5-0 as Marco took a Garrett shot that deflected off the goalie and put it in from an acute angle.

Garrett made it 6-0 with an unassisted goal two minutes later.

ABGC struck back with a goal at 17 minutes of the second half, but Mateo made it 7-1 four minutes later, by grabbing a weak ABGC goal kick and putting it in from just outside the goal box.

Marty capped off the scoring with a spectacular run through several ABGC defenders, one of several great runs by him on the day. This one culminated with a nice shot into the corner of the net.

ABGC added a goal in the last minute of the game to make it Eagles Blue 8, ABGC 2.

Besides the goals, the game was marked by some great defense and hustle plays that prevented scoring opportunities for the opposition. It was a great start to the season, and kudos to the great hustle and skill of all the Arlington players.
